The rooftop garden above will be utilized by all students at TAPCo through our sustainable living-oriented curriculum and connections with our neighborhood.
We have a new Middle School club that has already created over 40 videos related to their PLANTS SLAY ALL DAY after school club . They have visited and worked with City College Spitzer School of Architecture, one of our partners for 2 and 4 year postsecondary work. The gardening club at TAPCo currently consists of thirteen middle school students in sixth and seventh grade. Many of them have gardens at home in their backyard or grow plants in their homes. When you talk to these students it is apparent that they want to learn how to grow plants indoors using limited space. TAPCo students have similar interests to many people living in urban environments who would like to grow their own food and practice a more sustainable, cost effective and healthy lifestyle.
This year, the gardening club has been exploring different ways to use technology to grow to food indoors. Outside, students will be growing and harvesting for Part of the Solution (POTS) soup kitchen down the street. Also, neighborhood bodegas, Chinese takeout, and pizza shops. They will interview neighborhood businesses and create websites for them. This is the behind the scenes, behind the camera work of CTE for the Arts. Our other Artists will be doing a blend of their chosen Art form and some CTE to be competitive as artists in every medium.
By the time they get to our high school if they choose to stay at TAPCo, they will have CTE or other Arts to choose from as their concentration culminating in Regents Diplomas with Arts and/or CTE certification.
We've already spoken and visited with School Foods to grow things for our kitchen at school. There is a formal program for that, and we've done our homework. We will have the Arts and Tech Arts (video, design, sustainable design) to teach them.
“State of the art” will be the state of the Arts at TAPCO and you can be the first 6th or 9th grader to experience and be part of this amazing transformation.
Auditions are December 16th and January 6. For more information, please visit www.tapconyc.org.
We hope you join us today by making the choice that’s best for you and your future!
